Summary

What: Steps to reset your NCC Password in different scenarios.  Your NCC password is used for the MyNCC Portal and for on-premise resources such as computers and WiFi access.

Why:  Nassau Community College POLICY 8200 Network Security defines a 180 day password expiration interval and/or a user may have forgotten their password.

Who: Nassau Community College Students and Employees

Important Note:  NCC ITS will not reset passwords over the phone.  You must use a self-service password reset option.  If self-service password reset fails you must visit MyIT Support & Services in the Library Building, Lower Level, L02 with a Government Issued ID. 


Password Requirements

To align with cybersecurity best practices NCC has instituted the following password requirements.  Please be mindful when changing your password:

Minimum length: 15 characters.

Must include characters from at least three (3) of the following four categories: 

  • Uppercase letters (A–Z) 
  • Lowercase letters (a–z) 
  • Digits (0–9) 
  • Non-alphanumeric characters (e.g., !, $, #, %) 

Password history restriction: Last six (6) passwords cannot be reused 

Name restriction: Cannot contain three (3) or more consecutive characters from the user’s first or last name 

Important Note: Your NCC password is used for the MyNCC Portal and for on-campuses resources such as computers and WiFi.  Please update the WiFi connections on any of your mobile devices to ensure connectivity.

MyNCC Portal

The MyNCC Portal will allow you to reset your password both on and off campus.  You can use the MyNCC Portal to reset your password if it has already expired, or, if your password has not yet expired. 
 

Password Expired/Unable to Sign In:

Important Note:  NCC ITS will not reset passwords over the phone.  You must use a self-service password reset option.  If self-service password reset fails you must visit MyIT Support & Services in the Library Building, Lower Level, L02 with a Government Issued ID. 

If your password has expired that means you can not access the MyNCC Portal, email, or on-campus resources.

  1. Visit MyNCC.ncc.edu
     
  2. Select the "Forgot Password" button from the menu

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.

Password Not Expired/Able to Sign In

If your password has not expired and you wish to change your password from the MyNCC Portal follow the steps below.

  1. Visit MyNCC.ncc.edu
     
  2. Enter your N Number and current password, then select "Sign In"  If sign in fails, follow the above instructions to reset your password.
     
  3. Select the "Password Reset" button from the menu in the upper right:

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.

Work Station - On Campus

If you are using a computer on campus you will be notified that your password is about to expire, or has expired.  Please review the steps below to reset your password from an NCC computer on campus:

Important Note:  It may take up to 15 minutes for your password to update in the MyNCC Portal if changed on premise. 


Password Expired:

  1. Attempt to log in to an NCC computer while on campus - you will receive a notification that your password has expired and must be changed.  Select "OK"


     
  2. Enter a new password and confirm the new password; when done, select the arrow next to Confirm Password or press Enter on the keyboard. 


     
  3. If you encounter issues with changing your expired password please create a support ticket: Service - MyNCC Support or call MyIT Support & Services at 516-572-0629

Password Not Expired/Able to Sign In

If your password has not expired you will be notified on an on-premise computer that the password will expire soon. Follow the steps below to reset your password:

  1. You will receive a notification on your computer similar to the one below:

  2. Press and hold CTRL ALT and DELETE on your keyboard to access the Windows Security Screen
     
  3. Select "Change A Password" from the Windows Security Screen


     
  4. Enter your old password, a new password, and confirm your new password.  When done, select the arrow next to Confirm Password or press Enter on the keyboard.

  5. If you encounter issues with changing your expired password please create a support ticket: Service - MyNCC Support or call MyIT Support & Services at 516-572-0629


Outcome

You have changed your NCC password and you will have to change your password again within 180 days.  Please note that if you change your password on premiste it may take up to 15 minutes to update in the MyNCC Portal.
