Add An Alternate Method for O365 MFA

Log into your Outlook email via a web browser such as Chrome, Edge, Safari and others.  If you are unable to do so, please open a support ticket at MyIT Support & Services.

Once logged in to Outlook email, click the circle in the top right-hand corner of the page (most likely your initials reversed or an icon you’ve uploaded).

Click View account

Click Security info

Click + Add sign in method

Click the down arrow and select your additional methods.  The choices will vary depending on what you’ve already set up.  Follow the prompts to add the additional method.

  • Alternate phone - use this to enter your home phone number or another number that the system can call.
  • Office phone - this allows for phone numbers with an extension.  Use this to enter your work number.

When using a "calling" option instead of a "text", you will receive a telephone call from Microsoft and will be prompted to hit the # sign.  Usually it asks you twice so don't hang up until the recording says it's been successful.

To change the Default sign-in method click “Change” at the end of the Default sign-in method line, click the down arrow to explore your options.

The next time you’re prompted to MFA you will be given a choice of which you want to use for that session.  The default method will be at the top of the list.
